River dredging

Hi all.

We have had the quote in to dredge the river £675, 000. That's just the section surrounding the park from what I can gather. I think it is going to take some time to sort this one out.

Correction

Hi All,

I must correct a mistake. I said we had a good west marsh fun day. It was a friends of the freshney day.

River freshney

Hi all,

A bad report for me in the telegraph this week. Well after a little digging it seams I am getting a multitude of problems sent my way that I knew nothing about. Most of this artical is based on a chat on the river banks with a water bailiff. The regional director of the ea has no knowledge of them no longer de weeding the river.

I wish people would ring me instead of going behind me to sensationalise things. It could have been resolved with a phone call.

River freshney

Hi All,

Finally we have a bit of action for the freshney. Good effort by the council. It has taken a long time to get this organised. Here is a link. http://www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk/Litter-drive-promises-cleaner-future-Grimsby-s/story-16322238-detail/story.html

Good times in the west marsh.

Hi All,

I am sorry to inform you all of the passing of Alec Bovil. A sad loss not just for the Labour Party, the west marsh. But also for north east lincolnshire. My thoughts go to his family.

I must say a big thank you to the organisers of the jubilee day at the west marsh community centre and the west marsh fun day in the park. You are a credit to the west marsh. A special thank you to Edna Greenacre who's jam tarts were very good indeed. Also a special thank you to Elaine Atkinson for judging the cake competition at the west marsh community centre.

The lending library is now up and running with the marquees available to hire at £5.00 each per day. Please email me or get in touch with the west marsh community centre for more information. We will also require a form of photo I.D.

Bids are starting to come in for the community first funding. In fact the panel has passed its first bid. More to come I hope.

Bye for now

This week

Hi all,

A very busy week for me this week where to begin.

I will start with being made the portfolio holder for finance, governance and support services. A huge responsibility in these times of austerity measures from the out of touch government. I hope I can protect the public from the massive cuts that have been deposited on us.

On another note I have had a few brief chats with people around the community transport idea. It looks to be a good project and I hope we will be able to achieve something for the residents. Sticking to the bus theme the new route that runs down lord street is so I am told getting busier. That can only be good news.

I have also become the broadband champion for north east lincolnshire. What a result. This has been another worthy project which has put me in touch with lost of residents across north east lincolnshire. What has that got to do with the west marsh I hear you cry well it put me in touch with a community group called one voice who are going through the charity upgrade process so they can hold funds greater that £5000 per year in their accounts. We need to do this at west marsh forward to so we can get our reaching communities bid in and get some big money into the ward. This will help towards the housing problems and kick start the recovery of the west marsh.

I had a ward walk this friday morning and talked to a few residents. A lot of them are disgruntled however after talking to them I think I managed to dispel some myths and engage properly with them. Lots of issues in the hour that I spent walking around the frederick street area. Mattresses in the street, shopping trolleys, bricks, pavement issues, upturned bins and the old favourite pot holes. I will be writing a report to the street cleaners first thing monday morning.

This week in north east lincolnshire.

Hi All,

What a week for the labour party in north east lincolnshire. 25 seats and a win in park ward. Whood have thunk it. Now the real work begins helping to defend the people of north east lincolnshire from the cuts that are coming in a subversive style from the government. We are going to have a tough job.

On a lighter note Thursday may the 10th sees the launch day of the west marshes community fund. Please come along to the minster at 1pm. We hope to see you all there to see what, where, how and why.

We are plodding along with the community transport project more news soon.

I am hoping that we will have the petition up and running for the residents only parking in Frederick street by the end of next week.

Reports are also coming to me that. Two taxi drivers have been stabbed. At the moment it is unconfirmed but please pass any information on to the police.

Do enjoy the rest of your bank holiday.

Today's fun and games

Hi All,

Yet another busy day in the west marsh.

First things first the launch day for the community first funding will be on Thursday the 10th of May at Grimsby minster.

We will be asking all groups in the west marsh to attend and are looking for a contingent from local business. If you know anybody at a local business please ask them to come along.

I will be sorting out a presentation to give about the funding and we will of course be inviting the press.

I managed to track down the stash of second hand paving slabs to the doughty depot. Let's hope they have quite a few as I need hundreds for the west marsh.

I have given some thought to the problem of the west marsh forward having issues with communication. As it is such an onerous task I think it would be better to look at setting up a separate group for it.

Thanks for following

Lots going on this month

Hi All,

A very busy month so far. The west marsh forward raised a few issues that we need to look at in the area. Including speeding vehicles, cycling on footpaths and some very bad parking by certain individuals.

The need to ensure that all the community first money gets spent was also raised. To this end I am having a meeting with john mooney and jo middleton tomorrow to see if we can sort this through a launch day.

Today I have been chasing a stash of second hand flag stones that bbw have got stashed somewhere. They could b put to use on the west marsh instead of sitting in a store somewhere.

The MAAG group through edna greenacre are re hashing their entry into the community plan which can only be a good thing its nice to get more and more involvement from the community.

Today was also the day for the management team at the children's centre. If we had as much enthusiasm in the council as we do there we would be sorted long ago.

Best wishes

Darren

West marsh forward

Hi All,

We will be designing a leaflet for west marsh forward in order for people of the ward to have a medium for feedback and complaints. It will be a simple affair and aimed at widening the reach of the forward. Any comments on what should be on the leaflet please send them to. daz.billard@ntlworld.com

Busy couple of weeks

Wow what a couple of weeks. Sorry for the lack of posts. Well where to start. I am the new chair of the west marsh forward. I am looking forward to getting stuck in to this role and getting a bid into out reaching communities. I have also been asked to lead on the broadband rural inclusion project for north and north east lincolnshire. They have also decided to make me broadband champion for north east lincolnshire. I have been busy with the community first funding panel, helping to set the priorities then getting our website together. Once John Mooney is back we can look into having a launch day.

I have also had some complicated dealings with shoreline and the councils housing dept around the private sector leasing arrangements and the need for redevelopment of our empty homes.

I have been looking into the mini olympics for the west marsh children's centre. And looking at some very badly organised council bills that were sent three years late!!!!

Oh and let's not forget the pot holes springing up everywhere.

P.s. There are a number of letters arriving from China aimed at people saying one of your relatives has died in China and you could be owed lots of money. Please report them to trading standards. They are fraudulent.

A meeting of the regen panel today to discuss changing speed limits to 20 mph in some areas and other new restrictions. It was a call in by the tories. A lady has contacted Austin Mitchell about a stair lift the council paid for that has just been installed in her home. Apparently it is next to useless as it jumps when it comes to a join in the rail. The contractor has said it will take ages to order new rails. And the advice from the council officer in the mean time "just go up the stairs on your hand and knees". Where do we find this class of employee. This poor lady has not been to bed for two weeks. That's going to do her osteoporosis the world of good isn't it.

Poor landlords

This is the state of someone's bathroom who I have visited today. This is a rented property on the west marsh. If you ask me it isn't fit to keep a pig in. The land lord who will remain nameless has said it will do the repairs to the bathroom on the 30th of January. Oh that's good so this lady who's bathroom has been destroyed buy your own workmen who then did not give her a date of repair now can't have a shower for two weeks. Bare wires hanging out of the wall. Water pressure so low that the boiler is always failing so much condensation in the bedroom that there is what can only be described as a river on the windowsill. I expected so much more from an organisation as big as this one.
